Here they are, not necessarily in this order:

1. “I Can’t Make You Love Me” – Bonnie Raitt

2. “King of Sorrow” – Sade (I’m crying everyone’s tears/And there inside our private war/I died the night before) Need I say more?

3. “Bruised But Not Broken” – Joss Stone (Doesn’t the title say it all?)

4. “I Told You So” – Randy Travis

5. “I Believe” – Stevie Wonder (In my version I just replace “with you” and “this time” with “next time” and it becomes a pretty hopeful song… or maybe I just love Wevie Stunder so much it doesn’t matter ;)

Well, those are my top 5. You guys have any other suggestions? I could use them right about now.

“No Children” by the Mountain Goats is gloriously bitter.

I also like “Don’t think twice, it’s alright” by Bob Dylan

Re: Jimmy’s comment, just in case anyone doesn’t know it and wants to check it out that Mountain Goats song is probably the most bitter thing I’ve ever heard in my life. I LOVED it. It’s everything you know you shouldn’t feel and would never say. “I hope you die…” Wow.

Heather, I definitely know that one! Great one to add to the playlist!!!

    Thanks guys ;)

Oooooh, and how could I forget “Stay” by Sugarland? That’s a definite tie with Bonnie Raitt. Her, Randy Travis, Sugarland — country artists have the best ‘cry’ songs…
