Motown, Old Roomies and a Star Wars Wedding

I just got back from Detroit (well the Detroit area) where I worked at Joey’s Comedy Club in Livonia, MI. Worked with two great guys, the very funny Johnny Beehner out of Milwaukee and Ed Buehner who was based out of the Detroit metro.

I visited the Motown Museum.

It was AWESOME. So much history in such a small space. I can’t believe I was standing in the studio where Stevie and The Temptations and The Four Tops and  Marvin Gaye and Smokey and Edwin Starr, etc. recorded so much awesome music. No photos are allowed inside, but that’s OK. I remember it all. There was also a great movie they showed there. Way too many people at the shows this weekend said they’d never been. I couldn’t believe it.

At our Thursday show we met a young lady named Grace (above) who was having her bachelorette party at the club.  Her wedding was Saturday and after the show she told me that she and her fiancee were having a Star Wars wedding, where they and their guests would dress in costumes from the movies. I immediately began to picture her in the Princess Leia white robe-y costume — but NOPE! Continue reading →

Me In Your City: Reno/Virginia City, NV

Check out my latest Me In Your City video. It features me and buddy Drake Witham during our week working out in Reno, NV. We visited the old west, toured a gold mine, and kicked it in Mark Twain’s bathroom. It was my first time in Reno and I kinda expected it to be more like Vegas…

But ummmm… no. Hahaha. If you’ve been to Reno you know what I mean. ;) Well I hope you enjoy the video!

Thank you, Corning. It was nice to finally meet you!

Over the weekend I had a show in Mansfield, PA but I stayed in a hotel about 30 minutes away in Corning, NY. It was my first time in Corning, although my father worked for Corning Glass Works / Corning Incorporated for over 30 years. My mother has never been, which is really amazing considering how fanatical my dad was/is about Corning products. I remember he once threw away a set of glass measuring cups my mom bought because they weren’t Pyrex. “Corning paid for the food you’re gonna cook with those, right?…” And once, back when southwestern style dishes were really the hotness, I bought a set of Mesa dinnerware and he made me return it.

But I digress…

He was always in Corning, and he’d always say that I should visit the Corning Museum of Glass… So after all these years, I couldn’t leave without visiting the CMOG.

“WOW” is all I can say. Some of the most gorgeous pieces I’ve ever seen. Here are a few of my faves:

My friend Jessica said that the piece above looked like Kristoff St. John of Young and the Restless fame. Haha… I had to Google for an old photo (this is him from an episode of The Cosby Show) and she is 100% right. Too too funny!

Me In Your City: Erie, PA

Here is the Me In Your City video blog from my recent trip to Erie, Pennsylvania. It was a LOT longer originally but I recently read an article that said that the average attention span for online videos is 2 minutes. So I cut it down some. Not for you guys — I know YOU guys could remain engrossed in my YouTube videos for hours… I shortened it for those OTHER folks on the Internet.com. ;) Hahaha.

Hope you enjoy!

Having fun so far in Erie, PA!

I’m here working at Jr’s Last Laugh Comedy Club, and already this has been one of my favorite weeks of the year. We started off with a packed Thursday show. And THEN I had the pleasure of attending the “Erie Idol” finals where 20 Erie residents battled it out for karaoke supremacy and a big cash prize. Then after a 6am spot this morning on the local news to promote the shows, I did morning radio with Mojo, Nat & AC over at Rocket 101 and had a blast!

We literally talked about butt cracks for 4 breaks. I was thoroughly impressed.

I saw a man walking down the middle of the main street here wearing a gas mask. And I also lucked up and came into town during the weekend of the Erie Micro Brew Festival. One of the gentleman I met this morning at TV who was promoting it, gave me a free ticket to tomorrow’s 1pm event! Soooo… basically what I’m saying is if you happen to be in or around Erie, tomorrow’s shows are gonna be fantastic.

I taped a little bit of Erie Idol and I plan to take my camera to the Brew Festival. So stay tuned for a Me In Your City blog.

Thanks, Erie. I heart you already.

Oversleeping and Overalls

I know I’ve been a lazy blogger but the last two weeks have literally been a blur. After digging my car out of the remnants of Snowpocalypse 2010, I drove down a day early to Raleigh to make sure I didn’t miss my Bill Maher shows. On the Sunday morning after the special aired I drove from Raleigh to Altoona, PA for a Valentine’s Day show. Then on the 15th I woke up at the buttcrack of dawn and drove from Altoona to Baltimore so I could catch a flight to San Antonio. I was there for one night and the next morning had to fly to Atlanta.

Which brings me to the reason for this post. I overslept and missed my first flight into ATL and had to take a later flight. Then when I finally got into the ATL airport, the airtrain that takes you to the rental car facility was broken and I and about a hundred plus other people had to wait nearly 50 minutes to get to the facility.

All I wanted to do was get to a bed and I didn’t know if I was gonna even be able to stand on my feet any longer. But then I saw this:

over-it-all

The most awesome pair of Maurice Malone overalls ever stitched.

And my day was immediately brightened. These jeans gave me energy. Where did he find them? Or better yet, what made him keep them so long? And how does he access the goodies he puts in the pouch? Getting undressed to get to your cell phone seems a little inconvenient… I wondered (almost aloud — I was kinda delirious ;) whether the pouch on the back was considered an additional carry-on. ‘Cause somehow it doesn’t seem fair that he should be allowed that AND a laptop bag. I thought I would share so these jeans could brighten your day too.

You’re welcome.

Me In Your City: Juniata College/Huntingdon, PA

Ok, so I’ve been getting a little excited lately with the video blogging, I know. But they’re fun (for me at least ;) Check out what happened after I got to where I was going in the blog below. The students at Juniata had fun freaking me out. And I starred in my own mini-version of The Blair Witch Project (emphasis on the ‘mini’)

Hope you like.
