Tipping point

image

Flew into LA for the day and the venue sent a towncar service to pick me up at the airport. I realized I didn’t have any cash when I got in the car, so I asked the driver if I could tip him on my card. He said he couldn’t do that, so when we pulled up to the hotel I asked the valet if there was an ATM inside. He said yes so I asked my driver to wait while I went in and got some money. I brought ten bucks (it wasn’t a great tip or anything) back to the car and gave it to him and he followed me back in to the hotel to tell me he’s been driving for 20 years and I’m maybe the third person who actually came back to the car after saying they’d be right back with a tip. Then he told me he was done for the day and took me to lunch with his tip. In real life.

The point of this story is: If you act like you have home training, sometimes an old white man takes you out for “kinda free” In-N-Out Burger and you wind up making an unlikely friend.

The Tour: Pt. 2

Tonite we played two shows at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach, SC. Such a cool venue. As soon as I walked in to the venue, one of the servers told me I had a delivery. Huh? Really? Then she brought in an Edible Arrangement and I thought, “Wow, it’s so nice of the tour folks to send me a fruit basket.” But then I checked the card and saw that it was from my three besties!

My girls are the best. A thoughtful gift that is both yummy and diet-approved! Love those ladies!

I’m allergic to kiwi so I tried not to eat anything that was touching it. I failed. My eyes and lips swelled and I ended up having to leave before the second show was over… But Dave Chappelle told me he enjoyed my act. So yeah… I’mma take some more Benadryl and lay my puffy-faced self in the bed with a smile on my face.

Hopping in the bed now. Off to Raleigh, NC in the morning!

Getting the band back together

So the Pumps and Punchlines ladies (L-R: Erin Foley, Rachel Feinstein, Renee Gautier) and I had another show this past weekend in Englewood, NJ at the Bergen Performing Arts Center. Big fun. I heart these ladies! And it was nice to get to spend a few days working in Jerz and visiting friends. The past month has been filled with lady comedian love. First there was the Standup in Stilettos taping in LA — Rachel and Erin did the show too. Then there was the power-packed She Bang show at the Moontower Comedy Festival in Austin, TX:

Erin and Rachel (pretty sure they’re stalking me), Maria Bamford (like twice in a week!!!), Chelsea Peretti, Jackie Kashian Mary Lynn Rajskub… and hosted by Sean Patton, even though he’s a dude — it may have been the most fun show I’ve ever done. And now, not only did we get to bring the P&P tour to my home state, but we raised money for a fantastic cause!

This weekend’s show was a benefit for Gilda’s Club of Northern New Jersey — an organization that provides amazing, free support programs for people living with cancer and their families. We were all so pleased that so many people came out to support. I am SO looking forward to our next tour dates! Here’s the promo one of the venues for later this year is running. Come see us if we’re coming to your town!!!

Class

I posted this photo on my Facebook page a couple months ago while I was sitting at a bar in Chicago. My beer of choice is Yuengling when available, but since it wasn’t, I ordered a Stella. Because the chalice makes me feel classy. Well, a few weeks after this I get an e-mail from my high-school friend Marques who now works for Anheuser-Busch. He saw my post and wanted to send me a chalice so I could drink whatever beverage I wanted out of it and still feel fancy. How nice is that??!?

I chose ornch soda. ‘Cause nothing says class like drinking ornch soda out of a gold-rimmed chalice. Fave Christmas gift! He actually sent a set of 6. I feel a cocktail party coming on…

THANKS MARQUES!

Happy New Year and the BEST GIFT EVER!

Happy New Year!

And thanks so much DC for 4 sold out shows at the DC Improv. Man, did I have a blast!!!

I know you can’t tell by looking at this picture. This picture looks like an audition pic for Bad Girls Club. But we really did have a ball. I even got a midnite kiss. Or two. ;) Shhhhhhh…

Now as some of you may remember, Dirty Dancing is my absolute favorite movie of all time, and I have been asking for the Dirty Dancing Board Game for the past three Christmases. WELL… after the NYE countdown show, one of my Facebook friends, Gaura presented me with a gift. I’d never received a gift at a show before so I was super geeked. As I started to unwrap it, I realized what it was and I started jumping up and down and screaming. Folks probably thought I was crazy…

Thanks Gaura. You are the GREATEST!!! You made my dream come true. Can’t wait to play! Think I’m gonna bust out my Dirty Dancing VHS for a little refresher before the board game tournament I’m planning with my friend Natalie.

Me and DDBG — Love at first sight.

I hope you all had a happy and safe New Year’s celebration. I’m looking so forward to 2011 and all the exciting things I KNOW it will bring — starting with this quick little nap I’mma sneak in before football starts. ;)

Read My Lips: No New FUBU

This is the FUBU logo on my friend Carrie’s coat.

An updated version from the old FUBU logo I remember from the 90’s:

I didn’t even know FUBU was still in business.

Maybe they aren’t.
Because in researching for this post (yes, researching) I couldn’t find a live website for the company. Yet, she says she bought it pretty recently. Though not surprising, it would be sad that FUBU went out of business — seeing as how it was for ‘us’ and by ‘us’… But even sadder is the thought that the company has closed up shop and there is actually someone out there bootlegging FUBU gear. Yikes.

This is my friend Carrie: Continue reading →
