Short ‘n sweet

Coach Reid in the 8/14 presser re: how Michael Vick will contribute to the team:

large_michael-vick

I’m not going to sit here and tell you how he’s going to contribute because I’m not naive to think that the rest of the National Football League’s not watching… I will say, though, that he will contribute. And you can ask defensive coordinators on other teams if they are worried about that.” — Andy Reid

Gotta love that. Coach Reid, succinct as ever.

Vick-tory?

Now this was unexpected.

In principle I’ve been totally for Michael Vick getting the chance to play in the NFL again. I think he got a raw deal on his jail sentence, and I believe he should have the opportunity to get his life back. But I gotta admit, that I never in a million years thought he would land in Philly. I’m not sure how I feel about it yet. Lurie, Reid, and the boys have made some smart (albeit hard to swallow) decisions during the offseason and so I hope know they have a plan here. I’m just having a tough time seeing it just yet.

The pros as I see them so far are: 1) Having Vick as an option could help to keep McNabb on his toes. Clearly they didn’t bring him in to take over the starting QB spot, but having a waaaay-more-than-viable second string QB (provided he’s able to get back into his pre-prison conditioning/form) forces Donovan to make sure his game is as tight as possible… As much as Eagle fans love to boo McNabb’s mental lapses, we never really want to see Kolb or Feeley — or whoever the other guy is — take the field. A little fire under the ass is a good thing. 2) Vick’s athleticism lends itself to all kinds of interesting and creative looks on offense. We lost our best all-purpose defensive player in Dawkins but now we’ve got a guy that can realistically jump into any number of offensive sets and make it work. I’ve often been critical of Andy Reid’s play calling. So this should be interesting.

I’m sure there are more pros that I’ll come to recognize in the coming weeks, but I guess my biggest concern is that maybe we were already OK and now we’re forcing it. Michael Vick isn’t an egomaniac and I’m sure he appreciates the opportunity and accepts what his role will be, but I’m just scared that when certain egos get involved and chests start to puff out, we’ll end up like those LA Lakers teams in the early 2000’s where they stacked the roster with superstars but couldn’t get it together. McNabb says he’s not worried about his spot and that he lobbied to get Vick to Philly — which I’m sure is all true now, but…

Exhale. Time will tell. I’ll reserve judgement for later and in the meantime just put a little faith in the front office. (Haha who said that? ;) Well, that’s all for now. But I’ll be checking out this 11am presser for sure.

Later.

EJ — Future Sideline Reporter in training… kinda

Last Wednesday I was a guest on Washington Post Live, a TV show that airs weekdays at 5 p.m. in the DC Metro area on Comcast SportsNet. They interviewed me about comedy and sports — my TWO favorite things! BFF Jenny flew into town and due to a series of events including my car breaking down after I picked her up at the airport, she ended up coming with me to the taping.

It was the day Michael Vick was released from prison and the taping was super fast-paced. People were in and out of the green room and studio like every 5 minutes. And everyone was asking everyone else, “What are you here to talk about?” or “What do you do?” Two guys walked in not too long after Jenny and I got there and I asked one of them what he was there to talk about. And he said, “Just football, I think.” Reeeally nice guy. When he finally went into the studio, someone came over and said, “He’s the quarterback for the Redskins.” Eeeeks! But it wasn’t Jason Campbell. Just wanted to clear that up. It was “a” QB for the Skins, not “the” QB. BFF Jenny knew exactly who he was. She was like, “That’s the QB out of Hawaii. Great arm.” I felt bad, but I’m not so Eagle-minded that I wouldn’t recognize the starting QB for the team in the city where I live. So sorry Colt Brennan. You were super nice. And also quite hot ;)

YUM! ;)

YUM! ;)

Jenny was in the greenroom apparently taking photos of the TV while I was on set. And I’m glad she did because the titles were hilarious. Here are the two she sent me:

Haha… I don’t know. Let’s find one and ask them what it’s like.

I’m coming into the studio as Redskins are leaving and all the staff is like, “This is Erin Jackson. She’s an EAGLES fan.” Were they trying to get me beat up? Also the caption is hilarious with the image. Are those Eagle Eyes?… My mom calls them my “slave eyes.” Tee hee ;)

I had a blast at the show. I’ve always thought it’d be super cool to be a TV sports personality, so it was nice to be in that environment and see what it’s like. Maybe one day… And I swear if it ever happens I will not be wearing one of those Russian fur hats Pam Oliver is so fond of. Tee hee ;) I’m looking forward to going back to the show during football season. I promise to study up on my Skins personnel next time!

Redskins Inferiority Complex

Thanks to Kenny for spotting this license plate on his way to work this morning and sending it over. Even though I’m a little sore at my team’s front office, I gotta defend them against these delusional Redskins fans. Y’all some haters ;)
No they don't! Well maybe we will... but that is yet to be seen, so stop being a hater.

OK so maybe I’m a LITTLE obsessed with the Snuggie…

OK, so I was in my favorite store (CVS) tonite — as I am most nights — and as I was looking for some mailing labels, I came across Snuggies for sale on the value aisle…

I'm not a tattle-tale, but...

I'm not a tattle-tale, but...

Now, I was under the impression that Snuggies weren’t available in retail stores — that they could only be ordered through their official website. But apparently I was wrong. That or CVS is bootlegging Snuggies, in which case I apologize profusely for this post — I’m not trying to get you caught out there C-to-the-V…

All my friends know how much I love CVS. I’m always letting them know about the deals I find — trying to convert the non-believers. Please see the text convo between me and my girl Sandi:

I’ll never doubt you again.

Anyway, as you know I already have a custom NFL fleece Snuggie, made for me by my girl DWJ…

My Eagles Snuggie!

My Eagles Snuggie!

But I couldn’t pass up the chance to pick up the authentic Snuggie. Because I really want to attend the Snuggie Pub Crawl in DC and I’m not sure if you can do it without an official Snuggie… I’m getting a little discouraged though because I’ve still yet to be notified when the DC Snuggie Pub Crawl is taking place. I joined the mailing list, but we’re almost out of Snuggie weather so I’m wondering if they’re gonna nix some of the cities.

And yes, I’m so serious. First, they’re donating proceeds from the event to charity (or at least they better be!!!) And second… do you know how HILARIOUS that would be?!? I would do a two-camera shoot and recruit a crew of correspondents and hit the streets. Talk about a video blog that writes itself. Drunken Snuggie Monks roaming the Cap City. Man oh man… I really hope I get the chance.

I couldn't resist... $14.99 AND the book light. CAMMAN!

Anyway, that’s me in my new Snuggie. Don’t be a hater. You know who you are ;) Holler.

Facebook status gets Eagles employee fired — ain’t that some ish?

My boy Kenny sent me this article yesterday. I hadn’t heard about it. Crazy. What ever happened to the first amendment? I posted something very similar on my Facebook page and in this blog. What? Y’all gonna ban me from attending games this season–if I can even bear to?…

I hope dude lawyered up. Cause I’m sure this is illegal–or at least I hope it is. Maybe they sign some kind of contract or something when they’re hired to work at the stadium?!?… All I’m saying is you shouldn’t be able to fire someone for being a fan and loving your team so much they want to work for you. Disappointment is only natural when the real backbone, the captain of your team is so beloved in the city and still playing at such a high level. Gimme a break, Philly. You are trying my patience. Whatever y’all are trying to put together, it better be good. Really, really good.

A Facebook post criticizing his employer, the Philadelphia Eagles, cost a stadium operations worker his job, according to a story in Monday’s Philadelphia Inquirer. Continue reading →

Are you there, God? It’s me, EJ

I do not understand this.

I do not understand this.

What kind of God would allow this to happen? My faith in the inherent goodness of humanity has been shaken. It’s been a week and I just do not understand this. I’m having a hard time putting this post in the ‘GO EAGLES‘ category.

This is my protest. B Dawk forever!!!

Hooray for trading away the heart and soul of the franchise. Way to go!
